Vineyard Description Fruit for this wine was sourced from the vineyards throughout the East Coast of New Zealand. Gewürztraminer is a difficult grape variety to grow and to consistently ripen to its full potential. Meticulously managed, the emphasis in Gewürztraminer vineyards is ensuring optimum crop levels between 2.5–3kg per vine depending on the site. Vertical shoot positioned canopy management systems are also utilised to ensure good bunch exposure. Winemaking Each vineyard was harvested separately, destemmed, crushed and chilled to 6˚c upon entering the press. To aid flavour extraction, the skins and free-run juice were held for a skin contact period of 2-4 hours. Post pressing, the juice was settled for 2-3 days before being racked clean and an initiated for fermentation. Cool fermentation techniques were utilised, extending the fermentation period and allowing for greater mouth feel and flavour retention. The wine was further matured on yeast lees for five months with sporadic lees stirring before being fined, filtered and bottled. Winemaker's Comment Highly aromatic, this year's Cellar Selection Gewürztraminer is at its hedonistic best. Rose-garden, lychee and pear notes delight with their intensity and purity. A seamless, richly flavoursome palate unfolds, showcasing an ethereal marriage between opulence, elegance and length. A sliver of sweetness leaves a lasting impression of balance and harmony to finish. Best enjoyed with food, it is outstanding with Asian and Indian dishes. Serving Suggestion Aromatic Malaysian and southern Thai dishes featuring satay or ginger. Also try with smoked meats, or soft cheeses with quince paste and dried fruits.
