Vineyard Description
The vineyards that provide the fruit for this wine are situated in both the Awatere and Wairau Valleys of Marlborough. Timely canopy management activities such as shoot thinning and leaf plucking along with an attention to vine health optimises the opportunity for the ideal vineyard flavours at harvest. The majority of the blocks were hand harvested to ensure pristine fruit with minimal skin disruption from vineyard to winery.
Winemaking
Fruit was picked at optimal ripeness predominantly by hand, which involved individually selecting bunches off the vine. Long, cool fermentation in tank allowed the free-run juice to retain delicate fruit and floral notes. Very gentle fining and one careful filtration were promptly followed by bottling, locking in the intense flavours.
Winemaker's Comment
The wine displays the lovely youthful Riesling characters of delicate citrus fruit, lemon and tantalising lime, with hints of seductive perfume and orange blossom. The wine has a fresh, yet harmonious palate, ensuring a perfect balance between intense fruit and crisp acidity in a medium dry style. Great with or without food. (October 2008).
