Vineyard Description
The Fletcher Vineyard is planted on stony soils in the middle of the Wairau Plains in Marlborough. The management of the vineyard includes extensive hand manicuring and a devotion to detail by Colin and Chris Fletcher. This unique and distinguished site consistently provides wine of pedigree and harmony. This Riesling was made in the Germanic Spatlese style. Only when the ripe flavours had developed did we decide on hand harvesting selective bunches and whole bunch pressing. Only the finest juice was cool fermented ensuring the retention of the perfumed aromatics.
Winemaking
Following harvest, the grapes were whole bunch pressed and went to stainless steel tanks, where a long and cool fermentation took place. Subsequent to the fermentation, the wine remained in contact with light lees for three extra months for maturation, before it was then fined out with gentle fish and milk products, filtered and bottled.
Winemaker's Comment
This unique and distinguished site has provided a wine of pedigree and harmony. Intense, pure and alluring aromas of fresh lemon, mandarin, citrus peel and orange blossom characterise the nose along with hints of dried herbs. The palate has fresh, youthful citrus flavours along with subtle spicy musk and mineral tones. The classical structure is delicate, refined and harmonious, starting luscious and finishing with a crisp, pure and racy acidity.
