Villa Maria
Reserve Wairau Valley Sauvignon Blanc
|
Vineyard Description
The fruit for this wine comes from a combination of vineyards with varying soils and viticultural techniques throughout the Wairau Valley. The common thread between the vineyards was an unrelenting focus on vine health. This was achieved by a measured approach to vine nutrition and the balancing of vegetative growth with reproductive growth.
Winemaking
After receiving skin contact post crushing, the juice was pressed and went to tanks, where the fermentation took place. Subsequently to the fermentation, the wine remained in contact with the lees for two extra months for maturation, before it was then gently fined, filtered and bottled.
Winemaker's Comment
A classic Wairau style showcasing the ripe fruit characters found in the Valley. The nose overflows with pungent passionfruit, grapefruit and ripe gooseberry characters. The palate is powerful with an explosive array of ripe gooseberry and tropical flavours complemented by crisp acidity and a long finish.
