SOILS AND VITICULTURE
The Gimblett Gravels vineyards of Villa Maria in Hawkes Bay have produced consistently high quality fruit for Reserve wines for well over a decade. The free-draining, gravelly soils and the warm temperatures of the Gimblett Gravels naturally encourage low yields and devigourated vines. Low crop levels with shoots numbering 20-25 per vine ensure the resulting fruit is deeply coloured, richly flavoured and displays ripe tannins.
A deeply coloured and brooding wine perfumed with the scent of blackberries, plums, vanilla and peppery spices. Darkly fruited, this intensely concentrated wine also offers beautifully integrated tannins and complexing oak derived aromatics and flavours.
This wine will age well for 10-15 years from vintage.
