SOILS AND VITICULTURE
The Gimblett Gravels is a unique and highly prized area of land is fast becoming recognised as having superb growing conditions for producing Syrah of world class standard. The free-draining soils, warm daytime temperatures and cool nights encourage naturally devigourated spur-pruned vines to ripen their low yields slowly and evenly. These factors, along with well-timed vineyard management techniques ensure the resulting wines are deeply coloured and well structured, with pure aromatics and flavours classic to the variety.
WINEMAKERS COMMENT
This wine was chosen as the finest red wine produced from the 2011 vintage to commemorate this special milestone. A concentrated Syrah was produced from low yielding vines grown in the unique soils of the Gimblett Gravels. Deep, inky purple hues lead to a dense and brooding nose of black fruits, liquorice and graphite, alongside more fragrant notes of violets and pepper. Rich tannins provide texture, encasing concentrated fruit characters on the palate which evolve over a long finish.
